Why Notes

For some time now, I have wanted to write about things that are not necessarily related to photography. Ideas that appear during a journey, after reading something, in a conversation, or simply when you spend a little too long thinking.

For many years, I have used photography to tell what I see and also what I feel when I look at it. I still believe that a good photograph can say a great deal without words, but there are things I would like to tell in another way.

At 63, I have lived quite a lot, travelled widely, met extraordinary people and made my share of mistakes. Some things are fairly clear to me. About others, the more years pass, the less certain I become. I find that interesting.

I do not intend to lecture anyone about anything. Nor do I know how often I will write. There will be room for journeys, books, photography, people I have met and any other subject that keeps circling in my head.

I enjoy conversation, discussing ideas and listening to people who think differently. I do not always change my mind, but I enjoy it when someone makes me question something I had taken for certain.

I want to write with that same freedom, without worrying too much about reaching a conclusion. Some opinions will surely change over the years, while others I will continue to defend, even when people disagree with me.

And if, from time to time, someone finds something here that makes them stop for a moment and think, all the better.
